Differences in Smoking vs Vaping?
The majority of people perceive vaping and smoking to be the same thing. This is a misconception, Vapor and smoke has a vast difference, they only look similar when exhaled
Vaporizers produce vapor known as “vape smoke”, however this is completely misleading and incorrect
I have defined the comparisons between Vapor and Smoke below
DEFINITION OF SMOKE FROM CIGARETTE
Smoke occurs as the result of combustion. It is a visible suspension of carbon particles in air when combustion occurs, new chemicals may form through the process of oxidation. Thousands of new chemicals appears with this as the structure of the original material changes during firing.
This ignited fire is what creates smoke. When you smoke a cigarette, a flame is introduced to create the smoke. Smoking vs Vaping.
DEFINITION OF VAPOR FROM E-LIQUID
When an e-liquid becomes vaporized, at a temperature that is lower than its point of combustion, it is considered vapor. The same chemicals that are in vapor are the same as those found in the vaporized substance.
Vaporizing is similar than when you heat water on a stove, when the water boils, it creates vapor. Even though this vapor is in a different state, it will still have the same makeup as the water
What we know is that vapor, unlike carbon based cigarettes, does not create any new compounds. When e-liquids are vaporized the compounds in the substance stays the same, and therefore vape smoke and vapor is not the same definition. So smoking vs vaping, is vaping bad for you?
WHICH CHEMICALS ARE IN SMOKE?
According to the American Cancer Society, tobacco smoke contains over 7,000 different chemicals with over 70 that cause cancer. A list of a few of the chemicals found in tobacco smoke is below:
- Benzene: Used in various dyes, synthetic rubber
- Carbon monoxide: Poisonous gas
- Ethyl Furoate: Causes liver damage, mostly in animals
- Formaldehyde: Used to preserve dead specimens
- Methoprene: Common Insecticide
- Megastigmatrienone: Chemical naturally found in grapefruit juice
- Benzene: Linked to leukemia.
- Formaldehyde: Linked to lung cancer.
- Nickel: Causes increased susceptibility to lung infections.
- Methyl Isocyanate: Its accidental release killed 2,000 people in Bhopal, India
- Polonium: Cancer-causing radioactive element also used in the “Fat Man” implosion type nuclear warhead used on Nagasaki
- Ammonia: Household cleaner
- Angelica root extract: Known to cause cancer in animals
- Arsenic: Used in rat poisons
- Butane: Gas; used in lighter fluid
- DDT: A banned insecticide
- Cadmium: Used in batteries
- Cyanide: Deadly poison
- Lead: Poisonous in high doses
- Maltitol: Sweetener for diabetics
- Naphthalene: Ingredient in mothballs
- Fungicides and pesticides: Cause many types of cancers and birth defects.

WHICH CHEMICALS ARE IN VAPOR?
Smoking vs vaping. When vapor gets created, no new chemicals are formed. The chemicals that are in a liquid are the same chemicals found in the vapor formed from the liquid.
E-liquids typically have four compounds. They include Propylene Glycol, food grade flavoring, Vegetable Glycerin, and may contain Nicotine.
These four chemicals are FDA approved for human consumption.
SMELL OF SMOKING?
Smoking carbon burn products such as cigarettes always leave a terrible aftermath, even after ventilation a room for days, the smoke smell would linger.
When vaping the smell of vapor is typically a pleasant aroma and this vapor dissipates within minutes, leaving an area free from any scents, it is thus less intrusive
TAR AND CARBON MONOXIDE
One down part of smoking is that you inhale not only deadly chemicals but that you inhale tar and carbon formed during the carbonation of your cigarette. The tobacco also contains carbon monoxide when the fire combusts the tobacco, this not only damages your lungs but contributes to rotting teeth.
So think wisely when making the choice to vape or to smoke, remember the smell of you clothes after enjoying the company of your friends around a bond fire. This will remind you of how you smell after smoking versus the aroma of a beautifully flavoured vape e-liquid.
